Djembe, balafon, udu, mbira, afuche-cabasa, frattoir, shekere, bodhran...even the names are magical. Since the beginning of time, people everywhere have attempted to capture the spirit of rhythm by using materials at hand,   CongaChick   explores the concept of rhythm with your group by presenting and playing exotic percussion instruments from around the globe. Depending on the number in the group, participants may have the opportunity to play the instruments.     CongaChick   can also visit your classroom to teach a hand drum workshop to your students. They will learn basic drum strokes and polyrhythms. Usually, students are playing five intermeshing polyrhythms by the end of the class! Perfect for music and African studies, geography and social studies classes! As a long-time educator, I am willing to work with teachers on specific themes and programs.
