Many would-be musicians are intimidated by the idea that they must have "formal training" in order to express themselves musically. This drum workshop is built on the premise that all of us can participate in the creation of music,
each of us adding to the mix in our own way.

I teach students to play by listening and feeling, and use a language-based method to teach and remember rhythms. Students learn basic tone techniques, rhythms, rhythmic variations, soloing, and general principles of musicianship: keeping time, playing your part while listening to others, and being a good "musical conversationalist."

Self-growth, life enhancement, personal empowerment, and enjoyment. Connecting with our inner rhythms, learning to converse musically within a group. Relating to the world as a musical place. Hearing the rhythms all around us.

Drum Workshop Parties are a blast!

One-session workshops: Flexible, usually 1½ hours. Class limit of 12, unless additional participants bring their own drum.

Five-session workshops: Five consecutive 1½ hour classes Monday to Friday, or 1 per week for five weeks. Class limit of 18, unless additional participants bring their own drum.

In a 5 session workshop, students also learn rhythms from Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Series of more or fewer than five sessions also available.

Drums are provided for use during class, and supplementary course materials are included in fee.

Everyone is welcome to bring his/her own drum or other percussion instrument.
